Media Branding for Varosh: From a Logo to a Recognizable Visual Identity

varosh.com.ua

About the Project

Varosh is an independent Zakarpattia media outlet that covers life in the region, inspires, informs, and helps grow the local community.

The challenge

To develop a cohesive and recognizable brand identity and create a visual system that works across different formats: the website, social media, and print materials.

What shapes a media brand identity?

Brand identity is first and foremost a working system. It is built on rules and tools that create a cohesive brand image: typography, color system, layout principles, graphic elements, and content templates.

It serves several purposes at once:

strengthens brand recognition

simplifies content creation for the team

adapts to the fast pace of editorial work

maintains a consistent style across different formats

BRAND IDENTITY IS A SYSTEM,
NOT A COLLECTION OF ELEMENTS

  • Logo redesign

We refreshed the Varosh logo, giving it a more distinctive and modern look. At the same time, we preserved the familiar typography and signature red color that have already become associated with the brand.

  • varosh identity

The letter V resembles a turning page. It alludes to reading, publishing, and the stories that Varosh brings to its audience. This approach reinforces the media brand through visual communication.

  • varosh identity

We also designed a favicon informer and logo variations with descriptors for different areas of the online publication. This allows the identity to be used flexibly across formats, from news sections to special projects, while maintaining a cohesive and recognizable style.

Brand color palette

Varosh’s signature red serves as an accent color that drives brand recognition and draws attention. To preserve this role in everyday communication, we expanded the palette with a set of supporting colors.

These colors create visual balance across content and serve as the foundation for most materials, while red remains reserved for important messages, headlines, and key elements.

Media outlet visual system

A set of graphic elements forms a unified system for content creation. In practice, it works like a toolkit that allows the editorial team to assemble visuals for different needs. This reduces preparation time and minimizes dependence on a designer’s constant involvement. For a media outlet operating in a fast-moving information environment, this is particularly important.

The refreshed identity applied to the website creates a cohesive user experience.

A set of templates provides several practical advantages:

  • saves time on content creation
  • eliminates visual clutter in the feed
  • maintains brand recognition even for breaking news

As a result, Varosh content maintains a cohesive look regardless of the topic or format, while brand communication remains consistent across all digital channels.

Branding and Offline Assets

Brand identity extends beyond digital channels and supports the media outlet’s offline communication as well: events, meetings, partner activities, and presentations.

Even basic assets, such as badges and printed materials, follow the same visual system. This creates a cohesive and professional perception of the media brand and strengthens trust.

Logo Guidelines

To help the Varosh team use the identity consistently, all rules for working with the logo, color system, and graphic elements were brought together in a logo guide. It also includes ready-to-use solutions: templates and layouts for social media and print materials that can be used immediately.

For the media outlet, this is a complete working tool that helps onboard new team members, avoid mistakes in visual communication, and maintain brand consistency in day-to-day work.

The logo guide can also be shared with partners and contractors, providing clear rules for using the logo without involving the team in every design asset.

From a Logo to a Recognizable Brand Identity

For media outlets, standing out in a highly competitive environment is essential. Varosh received a brand identity that works on multiple levels:

varosh identity

helps the editorial team create social media content faster

varosh identity

maintains a consistent communication style

varosh identity

enables the brand to scale without losing recognition
