Updating Website and Building Community: Varosh Case

varosh.com.ua

About the project

Varosh is an independent online media outlet in Zakarpattia. It informs readers and builds a local community.

The challenge

Update the website, simplify the publishing process, and build a system for effective interaction with the audience.

Why community matters for media

A strong community keeps people connected to a media brand. These are readers who trust the publication, return to its content, and are willing to support it.

Without a structured system, this connection quickly weakens. Contacts get scattered across different tools, some data is lost, databases aren’t updated, and communication becomes inconsistent. As a result, the media gradually loses touch with its audience. The editorial team no longer clearly understands who supports the publication, how to engage with them, or how to turn them into an active community.

Working with the audience

For Varosh, we rethought how the team works with its community and brought all processes into one system. Subscriber data is automatically stored in published Published! stays at any time, and doesn’t get lost. Editors can see who supports the publication, what subscription they have, and the status of transactions — successful, canceled, or failed.

We also automated communication with subscribers. Email addresses are synced with SendPulse, so the team no longer needs to export contacts manually or move databases between tools. The system determines which email each user should receive based on their contribution level. This approach strengthens community development and opens up new ways to engage with the audience. The Varosh team can segment users, communicate with different groups, share updates, invite people to events, and offer bonuses or special products.

Media identity

We refreshed the visual system of the media: logo, brand identity, social media design, and branded materials. This visual language became the basis for the website design.

News website design

We designed the user journey from the first article a user opens to the moment they decide to support the publication. Navigation, page structure, content types, and key elements create a clear and intuitive experience. As a result, readers can easily find content, while the editorial team manages it more efficiently.

Website development

We migrated the site to published Published! — a platform for building and managing media websites.

This included the full transfer of all publications and media files. We preserved the content archive, URL structure, internal linking, and publication history. The transition was seamless for readers. The editorial team retained all content: materials remain available, links work correctly, and search rankings are preserved.

published Published! opened up new opportunities for the editorial team

  • Collaborative editing

The platform shows who is currently working on the article and prevents overlapping edits, so no changes are lost.

  • Draft management

Changes are saved automatically, and drafts can be accessed at any time. A preview mode is also available.

  • Embed integration

Social media posts and videos are displayed directly in the editor, so editors can see how content will look after publication.

Multilingual support

The site is available in two languages. No separate translation team is required.  published Published! supports both manual and AI-powered translation, which speeds up publishing.

Smart image cropping

The system detects the main focus of an image and automatically crops it for different formats. Editors don’t need to do this manually, and visuals display correctly across the site.

Audio content

Articles are available in audio format. A built-in player generates voiceovers using neural networks, and editors can add them directly in published Published!. This gives users more ways to consume content.

Content types

The platform supports different types of content. The editorial team can launch new formats, create thematic series, or develop long-term projects without changing the site structure.

Varosh has dedicated sections for special projects and podcasts. These are configured directly in published Published!, so editors manage them as easily as standard articles. Podcast pages include descriptions, covers, and links to platforms like YouTube Music, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts. Listeners can choose their preferred platform and start listening instantly.

One of  published Published!’s key advantages is its flexible structure. New content formats can be added as separate page or publication types.

A modern news platform

The Varosh team now has a full platform for managing and growing their media. Editors create and publish content in one system, work with different formats, and develop readers community.

We came to the relaunch at a moment when we clearly felt how much the media had grown. Varosh had evolved — new topics, formats, ambitions — but the website was still built on the old logic. The admin panel was inconvenient, many processes took too much time, and we kept running into limitations when trying to launch something new.

After the launch, the difference was obvious. Many small technical barriers disappeared from the editorial workflow. At the same time, the website became much clearer for readers — better structured, easier to navigate, and more pleasant to read.

I’d also like to highlight the collaboration process. It was important for us that the ideil. team actively contributed to discussions and offered solutions. And just as important was the post-launch support — you’re not left alone with a new product.
