Native Android or Flutter — which is better for a mobile app?
The choice between native Android development and Flutter depends on the product’s functionality, performance requirements and plans for other platforms. If the app is being developed exclusively for Android or requires deep integration with the operating system and device capabilities, native development may be the best solution.
Flutter is worth considering when the product needs to be launched simultaneously on Android and iOS. A shared codebase allows you to implement the core functionality for both platforms and subsequently develop the app in sync. This is particularly useful for business services, e-commerce, media and products where the functionality of the Android and iOS versions must remain identical.
However, the choice of technology should not be based solely on the principle of ‘faster’ or ‘cheaper’. We take into account camera functionality, geolocation, push notifications, background processes, offline mode, third-party SDKs and other device capabilities.
For some projects, Flutter will be the best choice; for others, a separate Android development approach is preferable. It is better to decide on the technology after analysing the product requirements, rather than before.
